ABOUT US
LAKE COUNTY HONOR FLIGHT
Who can Participate?
Priority is given to the oldest veterans and those in hospice care. After that, we process applications from veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Cold War (served through 1975). Unfortunately, because we have an extensive waiting list of older veterans from these periods, we’re unable at this time to accept applications from those who served more recently. Vietnam veterans are placed on our waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis.
mission
Lake County Honor Flight celebrates America's veterans with a multi-day trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.
vision
A nation where all of America’s veterans experience the honor, gratitude, and community of support they deserve.

about
The Flight
Veterans always fly free! The multi-day flight includes a personal guardian, airfare, ground transportation, tours, meals, hotel accommodations, and much more! Veterans will travel with Lake County Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to visit the Korean War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and other memorials in our nation’s capital.
Flight Schedule
We fly three multiple-day Honor Flights each year, usually in April, August, and October. Lake County Honor Flights depart from North Chicago, Illinois, and fly out of General Mitchell International Airport.
What's the cost?
Lake County Honor Flight covers all expenses related to the veteran's trip. Every flight is funded by the generosity of individuals and corporations who support our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
In a remarkable year of service and dedication, we've achieved a milestone by serving 76 veterans across three transformative trips—the highest number in our history for a single year. From honoring a World War II veteran to supporting dozens of Vietnam-era service members, our mission continues to touch lives across generations of military service. As we celebrate serving 564 veterans throughout our journey, we remain committed to the 191 veterans still waiting for their opportunity. Each trip represents not just numbers but real stories, healing moments, and the honor of serving those who served us all.
The Honor Flight Network released nationwide statistics on the number of veterans served in 2023, marking 18 years of successful operation by our national organization and the 126 affiliated local Honor Flight hubs. Since the beginning, our organization has flown more than 300,000 veterans to Washington D.C. Thank YOU for being a part of making this happen!!
